Did we have fun OR WHAT!!! I thoroughly enjoyed having Wanakee on the show. We already knew that Wanakee is the First Diva of Black hair growing, we already knew that she is a former top model and we already knew that she's a phenomenal painter, but what we DIDN'T know is how absolutely genuine, sincere and HUMBLE she is!

Wanakee shared with us insight into how she started her hair company in the 90s and how she went from top model to personal artist to everyone from celebrities to local Wisconsin residents.

OFF TOPIC: Hair, hair EVERYWHERE! Last month we saw Tyra's hair, last week we saw Oprah's, Wendy's hair last night and Joy Bryant....well....we ain't NEVAH gonna see her hair!

Here's what Joy had to say in her Essence.com blog post "Tracks Of My Weave"

Ouch! My tailbone really hurts when I sit on hard surfaces or slouched down in a chair for too long. That’s what I get from busting my butt from too much snowboarding. It makes it really hard to sit in a salon chair for hours on end getting my weave hooked up.

But oh, how we suffer for beauty…I must bring a pillow next time.As the threads of the grown-out tracks were being snipped, I broke out my laptop and began my ritualistic daily web search. I go from news of the day to articles/blogs about the news of the day, ending up on entertainment/gossip/fashion stuff. But that day, something caught my attention and trumped all of the glowing reviews of President Obama’s health care speech:

It was Tyra’s hair.

National Real Hair Day? I missed that one…In fact, on National Real Hair Day, I was calling Extensions Plus in L.A. to make sure they had enough of the 20” “relaxed roots” texture hair that I love oh so much (and that keeps selling out like crazy!), and making an appointment to get my hair, I mean, my weave, hooked up.

So Tyra, while I didn’t take part in your observance, I just want to say: “WOW!” You are such a brave woman for breaking the chains that bound you since your teenage years! What courage that took, for you to expose yourself to millions of people! Such fearlessness! Oh, how I wish I had the guts to do that. I guess I’m much too much of an insecure, self-loathing Negro for all that self-acceptance foolishness.I’m glad we got down to solving the mystery of what’s under your lace-front, though. I mean seriously, it was “THE” question that has perplexed the world over. And now we see that there’s a beautiful head of hair underneath it all, hair that was surprisingly relaxed and ready for the world. Whodathunkit?! If I had the same length and fullness of hair that you have, I might take my weave out too.

Ha!!!! I’m just playing! Even if I DID have your “real” hair, I’d still be wearing a few tracks or clip-ons up in there.

Why?

Because I’m straight weave fo life, kid!!! Ima ride ride wit this weave, die die with this weave!

Let me break it down for you:

See, I loooooove taking new hair out of the bag, combing through it with my fingers, holding it up with my two hands, and burying my face in it. Mmmm, mmmm, mmm! Nothing like a new batch of zig-zag curly to get your self esteem out of the dumps!

The feeling of getting my hair, I mean, my weave done over. I feel human again. I feel sexy. I feel powerful. It makes me feel…it makes me feel…it makes feel like a natural woman!!!

I can be whatever, whoever I want to be with the stroke of a sewing needle...

With long brown tresses and a tan, I’m Pocahontas, ’cause I got Indian in my family. With easy waves, I AM bohemian rhapsody goddess personified. And now that I got blond highlights! What!? I know I look like Beyonce! You can’t tell me nothing! Uh oh, uh oh…

And then I looked up from my computer, and caught a glimpse in the mirror of my head minus the long weavy locks. I looked crazy! Awww hell naw! I looked over at the new batch of hair sitting off to the side waiting to join forces with me. Damnit, I’m trapped, I thought to myself. I can’t let it go. I am powerless over it. Just when I think I’m done, it pulls me back in!

Now I guess I can get help for my self-loathing addiction.I can learn to accept myself in my entirety. I can emancipate myself from that which keeps me locked-up. I can embrace the natural state of things.

Yup, I can do all of that…

But don’t hold your breath!

Before Vera Wang became a national symbol for creativity and success, she was a talented and spirited fashion editor for Vogue Magazine. In 1981 she began featuring a new face in her glamorous editorial pages. Today artist Wanakee Pugh credits Ms. Wang for giving her a tremendous start that launched a successful twenty-year modeling career. Known in the 80's simply as "Wanakee" she graced the covers of the country’s top fashion magazines and was regularly featured in publications such as Vogue, Self, Essence and Italian Bazaar. Some of her retail clients included Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, and Macy's while beauty clients such as Avon, Revlon and Clairol used her image for television and print campaigns.

Throughout her 18-year career, she worked daily along side the era's top models and was privileged to be photographed by the worlds best image makers, including Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Rico Puhlman, and Francesco Scavullo. As an industry groundbreaker, she was interviewed by talk show icons Merv Griffin, Geraldo Rivera and Regis Philbin. In 1994 Wanakee became frustrated with the lack of information regarding textured hair. She began developing products, along with a practical haircare regime that yielded her own unprecidented waist-length hair. Determined to share her results she formed her own hair products company. During her tenure as founder and president, she provided products and free information to African American women throughout the country and around the world. She witnessed countless testimonials of women having tangible results by applying the valuable tips she shared.

Wanakee's love of art, combined with her intuitive ability to create a beautiful environment, prompted her to offer art--by design. “One should never underestimate the power of art within a room. The impact can be subtle, yet profound. While it’s true that not everyone has the ability to paint a picture, everyone has the ability to convey an idea, and most people know what they’re looking for; even it they cannot find it. I endeavor to follow through with their vision through original art that is both individual and personal. I find that some of my clients will commission a painting purely for art’s sake; while others look to add impact to an interior space. I design art for both points of view.

“Someone once told me that I needed to find one ‘artistic voice,’ one ‘niche’--that my range was too broad. My clients have wide-ranging tastes, and I take great delight in accommodating those tastes. I feel certain artistic diversity is my niche, and my voice is clearly heard when exercising the freedom to transverse from one style to another. I find traditional old world charm and loose contemporary edginess equally as enjoyable to paint. Painting the same style each time I pick up a brush would be like putting on the same outfit every time I dress. I love the surprise of discovering something new and unexpected each time I walk away from a canvas.”

EDITED: In CB's defense here is a statement he released clarifying what he said on Larry King.
“There have been reports on the internet that I didn’t remember what happened that night with Rihanna. I want to try and set things straight. That 30 seconds of the interview they used of me was taken from a one hour interview during which that same question was asked something like 4 or 5 times — and when you look at the entire interview you will see it is not representative of what I said.

The first four times – or how ever many times it was – I gave the same answer — which was that I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn’t fair to Rihanna. The fifth time – or whatever it was – I just misspoke. I was asked, “Do you remember doing it?” and I said, “No.”

Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur. And yes, I still can’t believe it happened because it is not me or who I am or is what happened like anything I have ever done before.

As I have said several times previously, I am ashamed of and sorry for what happened that night and I wish I could relive that moment and change things, but I can’t. I take full responsibility for my actions. What I have to do now is to prove to the world that this was an isolated incident and that is not who I am and I intend to do so by my behavior now and in the future."
